Along with Aries, as I mentioned in this post, Cancer and Gemini are two strong energies that we have been working with since 2024 and will continue to work with over the next year (and beyond). If any of your “Big 3” (Rising, Sun, Moon) or the ruler of your rising sign are in Cancer or Gemini, then you are on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. Pluto gets associated with “transformation,” but all of the planets have the opportunity for transformation in their own way, including Mars, Jupiter, and Uranus, which will be the focus of this post.
The Gemini and Cancer energies were sparked last year in 2024 when Jupiter moved into Gemini and Mars moved into Cancer, where it ended up stationing retrograde at the beginning of 2025. In June of 2025, Jupiter will move into Cancer, and in July 2025, Uranus will move into Gemini. Jupiter will stay in Cancer for a whole year until June 2026. Uranus previews Gemini until November when it will go back to Taurus one last time before taking up residence in Gemini in 2026 for seven years. Gemini folks are on a seven year journey of self-discovery. Cancer’s self-discovery is a lot less than that, but it’s still important, especially since Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and this will feel like much needed sunshine after months of the downpour Mars has represented during its time in the Moon’s sign.
If you’re Cancer or Gemini Rising, then you are experiencing this self-transformation the most since your Rising Sign is the most personal part of you that represents self, personhood, your body, and how you identify. If you are Cancer or Gemini Sun, you will also experience this transformation as the Sun represents your identity, mind, and how you shine. If you are Cancer or Gemini Moon, then your home, living situation, environment, needs, and what nurtures you is going through a transformation. Also, if the ruler of your Rising Sign is in Gemini or Cancer, then you will experience one of these transformations as well.
Jupiter expands. It’s also the big picture. When Jupiter is transiting your Rising Sign, it expands your perspective of yourself and how you identify. It inspires you to think beyond yourself as well and look at yourself in the context of the bigger picture of life. Jupiter invites you to connect more with who you are on a soul level. How you identity and who you think you are can go through a transformation because Jupiter is expanding the horizons of your personhood.
For Geminis, this transformation began back in June, 2024 when Jupiter first moved into Gemini. This expansion will begin for Cancers in June of this year, 2025, when Jupiter moves into Cancer. But, then, in July 2025, Uranus will move into Gemini, so for Geminis, the transformation continues. For Geminis, Jupiter has been expanding your sense of self so that when Uranus moves there, you will feel ready to live a completely different life. Uranus shakes up the old ways of doing things. It’s a disrupter, an earthquake shattering what you thought you knew, how you thought you were going to do things, or what you thought you wanted. Come July, Geminis will feel like doing things very differently in their lives, and some will be desiring to live an entirely different life altogether. Once Uranus settles in Gemini in 2026, it will be there for seven years, so this is a longer period of transformation. For Gemini Risings, especially, in seven years, you will not be the same person you thought you were. While growth is never easy, this is an exciting time for Geminis. Its *your* time to revolutionize yourself and your life.
For Cancers, you’ve been experiencing your fair share of challenges since Mars entered your sign back in early September, 2024. Early September to early November of 2024 was, especially, difficult for Cancers because Mars was in Cancer opposing Pluto in Capricorn, and a Mars-Pluto opposition is one of the most challenging aspects. Then, in early January of 2025, Mars went retrograde in Cancer, but, this may not have been quite as extreme as before because Pluto was no longer aspecting Mars as it was in Aquarius by then. Still, a Mars retrograde in Cancer is tough because Mars retrogrades in general are tough. But, also, Mars is in its fall in the sign of Cancer because Cancer is the opposite sign of its exaltation, Capricorn, so it struggles more in that sign.
However, while Mars retrogrades are generally more challenging times, they can be periods that are, ultimately, trying to help you. Mars represents a lot of challenging things, but it also represents where you put your action and energy, and what motivates you. Mars provides opportunities for growth, and growth isn’t often easy. For Cancer Risings, this has been about your self, identity, issues with your physical body, and your life in general. For Cancer Suns, this has been about your vitality, how you’re recognized or want to be recognized, where you shine, as well as how you identify. For Cancer Moons, this has been about your physical body, home, living situation, getting your needs met or challenges to getting your needs met, what you need to feel nourished and nurtured, and possibly issues with your mother or a motherly figure in your life (perhaps yourself as a mother, even).
Think about what themes have been in focus for you during the Mars in Cancer time. Cancer is the sign of humankind, it represents our spirits entering the human body. Cancer is ruled by the Moon. In Hellenistic astrology, the Moon was associated with mother, the body, home, and our needs. It is the giving of life. As a water, cardinal sign, Cancer needs to create and give birth to something, whether that's human beings or creative projects or passions. Cancer needs something(s) to nurture.
Hang on, Cancer Risings, Suns, and Moons! While this Mars in Cancer time has been challenging, there are blessings coming up in June when Jupiter moves into Cancer for a whole year! This will be positive for everyone, but it will be, especially, beneficial for Cancer folks. If you’ve been putting a lot of effort into the Cancer part of your chart/life, then it’s likely that you will reap positive results from those efforts when Jupiter is in Cancer. Mars in Cancer was brewing something new that you want to bring into the world. Jupiter moving there soon wants to give life to what you’ve been creating or nurturing.
I’ll be sharing more about Jupiter in Cancer and Uranus in Gemini more specifically, so stay tuned to learn what these energies mean for everyone whether you have planets in these signs or not.

Hi, I’m Cameron Airen (they/them, but sometimes they/she💁), a professional astrologer supporting old souls with social justice values to live the life their soul intended. I have my certificate from The Hellenistic Astrology Course. I have a M.A. in Anthropology and Social Change and my BA in Women & Gender Studies, and I’ve been self-employed since my early twenties with various past solo/small businesses as the co-founder of the Feminist Coach Academy, a life coach, feminist consultant, and personal trainer/running coach. I'm also a passionate SF Giants, Warriors, and sports fan, coffee drinker, book and art lover, movie and tv buff, interested in ancient history, tarot and past life healing explorer, and advocate for queer, intersectional feminism.
Astrology is something I’ve always been interested in. Newspaper horoscopes interested me from a young age. Once I knew my sun sign (Capricorn), I would go around asking all my friends, “what’s your sign?” One time, I almost got in trouble, as a friend’s parent thought I was talking about the “devil” when I mentioned “horoscope” (little did they know that Capricorn is the devil card in tarot ). I realized, then, that astrology was taboo to some people, but it didn’t deter me. I’ve always been drawn to the taboos.
Just like feminism, I never shied away from astrology even though some gave it negative connotations. When I was 22 years old, I received my first official natal birth chart reading from a professional astrologer, and was blown away by how accurately it described me and my experience.
Ever since, I’ve chatted about astrology with friends for fun until I decided to go deeper, discovered Hellenistic Astrology and began studying its ancient roots. You can learn more about me and my approach to astrology here.
